Secret RF – a new approach to skin rejuvenation

As technology improves, we are continuously looking into how to harness and apply it to improve our approach to skin rejuvenation and improving skin health. The common logic has always been that the more aggressive a treatment, the longer the downtime (the healing time when you might be red, dry or flakey) but in return, the better the results. This logic often still holds but advances in technology has helped to shift this equation – Secret RF improves the results vs downtime.

 

What is Secret RF?

For the first time in a long time, Secret RF truly is a new technology. It is a radio frequency system that delivers energy to where it’s really needed in a new way. For real rejuvenation and tightening, it is the deeper layers of the dermis that need to be targeted. This is tricky as there are layers of skin above this that we do not want to damage! 

Traditional energy based devices transmit energy from the surface of the skin. This means that all the layers are heated, including the surface which leads to downtime (redness that can look like a sunburn) or even burns. 

Secret RF uses micro needles to transmit radio frequency energy to where it’s needed. Microneedles enter the skin for a fraction of a second and transmit radio frequency energy directly to the deeper layers fo the skin whilst protecting the surface. The result is a greater heating of the target layers whilst causing much less heating to the surface. This results in much less downtime for the amount of rejuvenation achieved.

 

How does Secret RF compare to Morpheus8?

Morpheus8 is a similar technology to Secret RF with radio frequency being delivered by microneedles. There are some differences, primarily that Morpheus8 needle depth cannot be adjusted, it is set per hand piece. If your therapist wishes to change the depth, they must change the handpiece. This makes Secret RF treatments more easily customisable. Morpheus8 offers a deeper maximum needle depth which must be used with care – it is important not to treat too deep and disrupt fat pads that sit under the skin.

 

What does Secret RF treat?

Fibroblast cells live in the deeper layer of the dermis and control the production of collagen, elastin and other skin building blocks essential to youthful looking, healthy skin. Not only does Secret RF boost and improve the quality of this production, it also can result in tightening as the heated collagen fibres shrink. This makes it an ideal treatment for texture improvement and tightening. Improvements are seen in:

Who can have Secret RF?

As Secret RF protects the surface layers of the skin, it can be safely used in skins of all types and colours. If you are noticing a change in the texture of your skin, scarring or laxity, you are an ideal candidate.

 

What does treatment involve?

Before treatment, all make up must be removed, the skin is cleaned and photos taken. Anaesthetic cream is applied to the face and left for around 30 minutes to ensure a comfortable treatment. The treatment itself involves the hand piece being placed on the skin for a second or two before being moved on to the next bit of skin to be treated. This is repeated until all treatment areas have been covered and then a second or even third pass might be completed. If treatment is uncomfortable the energy can be reduced. Each treatment is customised to your skin condition and tolerance.

 

How will I look after treatment?

Immediately after treatment your skin will be pink or red as if you have a mild sunburn. We apply a calming serum and ask you not to put on makeup for several hours. The most people, they can travel home on public transport without being too noticeable and within 24 hours most will be near back to normal. For some, remaining redness can persist for a few day and, in our experience, full healing can take up to a week. 

 

How many treatment will I need?

We recommend a minimum of three treatments, one month apart. For better results, or more difficult conditions, a greater number of treatments are required though we do not recommend more than four or five in the initial course. After that, maintenance treatments can be performed once or twice a year.

 

What results will I see?

It is important to remember that results are variable and cannot be guaranteed but whatever you see, improvements will have been made at a cellular level. We expect to see an improvement in the texture of your skin with small pores, scarring and firmness too. Tighter skin is also expected but this does require more aggressive treatment with more treatments. 

 

Is Secret RF safe?

Yes. Secret RF is safer than other comparable remodelling energy based devices as the surface of the skin is not in the way of the delivery of the energy. This means less heating of the surface of the skin leading to less downtime and a safer treatment.
