Dermaroller is a small handheld roller with rows of microneedles on the surface. It is rolled on the skin to create hundreds of micropunctures in the skin.
Dermapen is a pen like device containing an electrical motor that moves a bank of microneedles in and out. The depth of penetration and speed can be altered resulting in a more controlled, faster and (if required) aggressive treatment.
Generically, these treatments are known as microneedling.
This is really dependent on the condition you are trying to improve and what else you are doing. We recommend a minimum of 3 treatments for general rejuventation and at least 5 for acne scarring. Treatments are performed 4-6 weeks apart.
Specialist skin care is highly recommended to get the most you’re your treatment and best results, combination treatments can be recommended.
Skin should feel smoother after just a couple of days as there is an initial exfoliation. However, collagen production can take several weeks to have its maximum effect and can even be up to 6 months.
Duration of results are dependent on the individual and the speed of aging. The treatment will increase the amount of collagen but this will then slowly decrease in the same way as the collagen was before treatment.
In the case of acne scarring, results can be permanent.
Immediately after dermaroller or dermapen treatment, your face will be pink/red as if you have mild sunburn. This settles over the next 24-48hrs. There is no medical reason why you couldn’t return to work immediately but unless you are working from home, you may get second looks from colleagues!
Aneasthetic cream is applied to the skin before treatment to make it as numb as possible meaning that treatment should be comfortable.
